Becoming a parent can be a scary and overwhelming experience.

Incoming Baby, Instructions Not Included!

When you become a parent for the first time (and even the second or third…) it can be terrifying. Suddenly you find yourself responsible for this tiny human being who is dependent on you… for everything.

It can be an intimidating yet rewarding journey. Parenthood comes with its highs and lows, but equipping yourself with the right tools and support can make the experience an overwhelmingly positive one.

But There Will Be Parenting Advice Aplenty…

You’ll be getting advice from everyone, whether you ask for it or not. My advice is to always say, “thank you for the suggestion” then take the information that is most useful for your situation and don’t worry about the rest.

This course is based on scientific principles and designed to help new parents learn how to create a supportive home environment and nurture interactions that promote growth, autonomy, and secure attachment with their child.

What We’ll Cover:

Healthy Communication

Communication is the cornerstone of any successful partnership, and it’s absolutely essential for creating a healthy and thriving environment for your children. This means having open and honest conversations with your partner in order to build a strong foundation that both of you can stand on. By providing an example of respectful dialogue and understanding, you can ensure that your children will have the tools they need to thrive as they grow up.

Conflict Resolution

Everyone is entitled to their own moments where they need to get their emotions out, but it’s important to remember that these moments should not be shared all at once. Conflict is an unavoidable part of life, but you can learn how to recognize and manage the stress that comes along with it so that your home environment remains healthy and peaceful. This includes taking the time to understand different perspectives and exploring options for resolution while also providing guidance and support to your child in learning how to do the same.

Partner Support

Did you know that postpartum depression affects as many as 1 in 7 women and 1 in 10 men?

Postpartum concerns are an often overlooked issue that affects both mothers and fathers. It’s important to take note of the warning signs in both yourself and your partner so that you can best support each other during this parenting journey. Research suggests that postpartum anxiety, depression, and other issues can last up to three years after birth, so it’s essential to remain vigilant in recognizing any changes in behavior or mental health. By having open conversations and providing comfort to one another, you can create a safe space for your family to navigate through this period together.

Parent/Child Bonding

Secure attachment is a fundamental part of raising a child that often goes beyond basic care. We will discuss the differences between secure and insecure attachments, how to recognize potential signs of an insecure attachment, the importance of meaningful touch in creating strong bonds, and different tools and activities for developing secure attachment. By learning these skills now, you can create a healthy relationship with your child as they grow older.

Your Child's Development

The first few years of life are an incredibly important time for development: a foundation is laid for how we interact with the world, view ourselves, and build resilience. We will explore the science behind early childhood development, go over best practices and core concepts that can help shape healthy development and learn strategies for building emotional resilience. By understanding these aspects of early childhood development, you can strengthen the bond with your child while they grow.

Age-Appropriate Discipline

Disciplining children is about more than just punishment; it’s about teaching the child how to make better decisions by using behavior modification techniques. We will discuss how natural consequences can teach lessons, age-appropriate methods for helping a child understand and engage in productive and appropriate behaviors, ways of modeling good behavior, setting boundaries, and ways to help a child identify and regulate their emotions. By focusing on these key areas of behavior modification, you can nurture your child’s development as they grow.
